In Syll 802 .41 (iii/B.C., from the Asclepieum of Epidauros) one of the cures effected is that of a παῖς ἄφωνος . For its application to a dumb idol in 1Co_12:2 , cf. Kaibel 402 .1 , from Sebastopolis in Galatia, where the marble pillar is made to say Γαῖά με τίκεν ( l. τίκτεν ) ἄφωνο [ν ] : now through the inscription it speaks. The word is MGr.
