αὐλίζομαι: deponent; imperfect ηὐλιζόμην; 1 aorist ηὐλίσθην (Veitch, under the word; Buttmann, 51 (44); Winer's Grammar, § 39, 2); (αὐλή); in the Sept. mostly for μεΜο; 1. properly, to lodge in the courtyard especially at night; of flocks and shepherds. 2. to pass the night in the open air, bivouac. 3. universally, to pass the night, lodge: so Mat_21:17; Luk_21:37 (ἐξερχόμενος ηὐλίζετο εἰς τό ὄρος, going out to pass the night he retired to the mountain; cf. Buttmann, § 147, 15). (In Greek writings from Homer down.)

αὐλίζομαι [page 92] OGIS 730 .7 (iii/B.C.) ὥστε αὐλίσ [ασθα ]ι [αὐτόθι ἐν ἡ ]μ [έ ]ραις δυσί (ν ). We may note Didache 11 .6 , where it is laid down that a wayfaring apostle, on leaving any house where he has been entertained, is to take nothing with him except bread ἕως οὗ αὐλισθῇ , until he reach his (next night s) lodging : cf. the expressive use in LXX Psa. 29꞉ 6 [MT Psa_30:5 ] τὸ ἑσπέρας αὐλισθήσεται κλαυθμός , weeping may come in to lodge (like a passing stranger) at even, In Preisigke 1579, a bracelet of Byzantine date, we find LXX Psa_90:1 [MT Psa_91:1 ] as an amulet, with αὐλισθίσεται : there are no variants except of spelling.
