Exx. of a later date seem to be rare, but cf. OGIS 669 .54 (i/A.D.) ἐάν τι εὑρεθῶσι ψευδὲς ἤ <ι > παρὰ τὸ δέον παραγεγραφότες , and CPR I. 232 .10 (ii/iii A.D.) ψευδεῖς αἰτίας ἡμῖν ἐπιφέρειν . ψευδής ψευδής, ές [Etym: ψεύδομαι] "lying, false", Lat. mendax, Hes. , etc.; ἐπὶ ψευδῆ ὁδὸν τρέπεσθαι to betake oneself to "lying" ways, Hdt. of persons, "lying", and as Subst. "a liar", οὐ γὰρ ἐπὶ ψευδέσσι πατὴρ Ζεὺς ἔσσετ᾽ ἀρωγός Zeus will not assist "lying men" (others read ἐπὶ ψεύδεσσι from ψεῦδος, will not assist "lies);" ψ. φαίνεσθαι to be detected "in falsehood", Thuc. τὰ ψευδῆ "falsehoods, lies", ψευδῆ λέγειν Aesch. , Ar. pass.
