P Lond 131 *.12 (A.D. 78) (= I. p. 189) persons περὶ τὸ ὄργανον χαλῶντ (ες ) τὰς τριχ (ίας ), and the comp d . ἐπιχαλάω in P Ryl II. 81 .11 ( c. A.D. 104) ἵν᾽ ὅσου ἐὰν χρείαν ἔχωσι ὑδάτους (= -ος ) ἑαυ [τοῖς ἐ ]πιχαλῶσι , that they may draw off for themselves as much water as they need (Edd.). The subst. χάλασμα occurs in Preisigke 428 .7 (B.C. 99), al. In MGr χαλάω = break to pieces and χάλασμα = ruin.
