συντόμως [page 614] The nearest parallel we can give to the NT usage briefly in Act_24:4 occurs in an astronomical treatise published in the Rylands papyri, I. 27 .32 (iii/A.D.) ἄλλως συντομώτερον ἀπὸ ἀρχῆς , another shorter way, starting from the beginning (Edd.). But cf. the adj. in a rhetorical fragment of iii/A.D., PSI I. 85 .2 ἀπομνημόνευμα σύντομον ἐπὶ προσώπου τινὸς ἐπενετόν , also 8, 14 , and the subst. in P Leid V x. 6 (iii/iv A.D.) (= II. p. 33) διὰ πάσης συνστομίας ( l . συντομίας ), omni brevitate.
