στόμαχος [page 592] in early Greek writers = throat, but afterwards extended to stomach, as in 1Ti_5:23 , its only NT occurrence : cf. P Leid W xvii. 36 (ii/iii A.D.) (= II. p. 145) ἀμφοτέρας ( sc. χεῖρας ) ἐπὶ τοῦ στομάχου . The word is used metaph. in P Oxy III. 533 .14 (ii/iii A.D.) ἵ [ν ]α μὴ ἔχωμεν στομάχου [ς ] μηδὲ φθόνον , that we may not be caused vexation and annoyance (Edd.) : cf. Vett. Val. p. 216 .3 γέγονε στόμαχος ( anger ) πρὸς δουλικὸν πρόσωπον .
