σκηνή [page 577] tent : cf. P Cairo Zen I. 59013 .14 (B.C. 259) σκηνὴ δερματίνη , PSI V. 533 .2 (iii/B.C.) σκηνὴν κατάγαγε ἡμῖν τετράκλινον ἢ πεντάκλινον , and P Leid W xiii. 21 (ii/iii A.D.) (= II. p. 125) μὴ ἐξέλθῃς δὲ ἐκ τῆς σκηνῆς σου . The employment of σκηνή for οἰκία , καταγωγή , is said to be Asiatic in origin : see Menander Fragm. p. 261, No. 1065. The editors understand σκηνή as = ship s cabin in P Hib I. 38 .7 (B.C. 252 1) τῶν συρίων ὑπὲρ τὴν σκηνὴ [ν ] ο̣ὐσῶν , the Syrian clothes being above the cabin, and so ib. 86 .7 (B.C. 248) ἀποκαταστήσω ἐπὶ σκηνὴν τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνηλώμασιν , I will restore it ( sc. grain) at the cabin at my own expense.
