σικάριος, σικαριου, ὁ (a Latin word), an assassin, i. e. one who carries a dagger or short sword (Latinsica (cf. Josephus, as below)) under his clothing, that he may kill secretly and treacherously anyone he wishes to (a cut-throat): Act_21:38. σικάριος (from Lat. sica , stiletto ), assassin ( Act_21:38 ), is found several times in Josephus, e.g. Antt . XX. 186 (= xx. 8, 10). For σικάριον , a dagger or knife, see P Oxy X. 1294 .8 (ii/iii A.D.) γ― σικάρια· ἐξ αὐτῶν σεαυτῇ ἓν ἆρον , three knives; of these take one for yourself (Edd.).
