board, plank, as in Act_27:44 , occurs in P Flor I. 69 .24 (iii/A.D.) (τοῖς ) ἐξηλοῦσι σανίδἐ (= δας ) [πλ ]ατείας ἑτέρου τοίχου τοῦ προκ (ειμένου ) πλοίου : cf. 21 . The word readily passes into the meaning of a wooden tablet for writing purposes, as in Syll .3 975 .30 ( c . A.D. 250) ἀναγράψαντες εἰς τὴν σανίδα οὗ καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ γράμματα παραδό [τ ]ωσαν εἰς τὸ δημόσιον τῆι βουλῆι . In Herodas VII. 5 it denotes a wooden bench to sit upon. For the dim. σανίδιον see Syll 366 (= .3 799) .25 (A.D. 38) τό τε ἐργαστήριον αὐτοῦ σ̣ανι̣δίοι [ς ] προσηλοῦσθαι , and for the verb σανιδόω see P Lond 1164 ( h ) .7 (A.D. 212) (= III. p. 164) πλοῖον . . . σεσανιδ [ω ]μένον δια̣̣ ν̣εὼς σὺν ἱστῷ .
