trumpeter. For this late form (for Attic σαλπιγκτής ) in Rev_18:22 , cf. the inscr. Syll.3 1058 4 (ii/i B.C.) σαλπιστάς , and Preisigke 4591 3 (Rom.) σαλπιστὴς χώρτης Ἱσπανορου (μ ). For σαλπικτής (= σαλπιγκτής ) cf. P Oxy III. 519 16 (ii/A.D.), where in an account of public games 4 drachmae are paid σαλπικτῇ .
