The Lucan combination with συνέχεσθαι ( Luk_4:38 , Act_28:8 ) is paralleled in P Oxy VI. 896 .33 (A.D. 316) ὁρ̣ῶμ̣ε̣[ν αὐτὸ ]ν̣ το [ῦτ ]ον κ̣λ̣ε̣[ινή ]ρ̣η̣ν ὄντα πυραι (= ε )τίοις . . . συνεχ̣[όμενον , we saw the man himself lying on a bed seized with a slight . . . fever (Edd.) : note the technical plur. on which Hobart (p. 52) comments.
Πυρετός in the sing, is found in the heathen charm, BGU III. 956 (iii/A.D.), invoking protection ἀπὸ πα [ν ]τὸς ῥίγου <ς > καὶ πυρετοῦ , cf. P Oxy VI. 924 .6 (iv/A.D.), ib . VIII. 1151 .35 (v/A.D.?), and the curse Syll 890 (= .3 1239) .20 (ii/A.D.) φρείκῃ [κ ]α [ὶ ] πυρετῷ καὶ τετα [ρ ]ταίῳ καὶ ἐλέφα [ν ]τ [ι : cf. also ib . 891 (= .3 1240) .10 (ii/A.D.).
