πρεσβεία [page 534]
Hicks ( CR i. p. 44) has drawn attention to the fact that πρεσβεία , the office of ambassador, was in everyday use in the intercourse between the Greek cities, and between them and the kings : this gives fresh point to its use in Luk_14:32 ; Luk_19:14 . See further s.v. πρεσβεύω , and for πρεσβεία = intercession, cf. P Oxy VIII. 1151 .39 (v/A.D.?) εὔχεσθ̣α̣ι πρεσβίαις τῆς δεσποίνης ἡμῶν τῆς θεοτόκου , pray through the intercession of our lady the mother of God.
