πίμπρημι [page 513]
πίμπρημι , which in the NT is confined to Lk ( Act_28:6 ), is the usual medical word for inflammation, see Hobart p. 50, where exx. are quoted from Hippocrates, Aretaeus, and Galen, and cf. Field Notes , p. 149. Hence the RV rendering swell up in Ac l.c. In Syll 813 (= .3 1179) .15 εἴ τι [ς ἄλλος ] τἀμὰ ἔχ [ει , πεπρη ]μένος ἐξ [αγορεύ ]ων , Dittenberger remarks that the force of πεπρημένος seems to be igni quodam intestino, veluti febri, homines scelestos vexari et confici.
