περιβόλαιον [page 505] περιβόλαιον in the wider sense of covering, clothing, rather than veil (AV marg.) in 1Co_11:15 (cf. Psa. 103꞉ 6 [MT Psa_104:6 ]) may be illustrated from Aristeas 158 ἐκ τῶν περιβολαίων παράσημον ἡμῖν μνείας δέδωκεν , in our clothing, too, he has given us a symbol of remembrance (Thackeray). For περίβολος , enclosure, we may cite the inscr. on the marble barrier of the inner court of the Temple at Jerusalem, OGIS 598 .4 (i/A.D.) μηθένα ἀλλογενῆ εἰσπορεύεσθαι ἐντὸς τοῦ περὶ τὸ ἱερὸν τρυφ́άκτου καὶ περιβόλου , that no foreigner enter within the screen and enclosure surrounding the sanctuary : see further Deissmann LAE p. 75, Otto Priester i. p. 282 ff.
