poor ( Luk_21:2 ), may be chronicled as occurring in BGU IV. 1024 viii. 12 (end of iv/A.D.) : the old woman is described by the judge as πενιχρὰ καὶ πρεσβύτης , and further as one ἥτις διὰ τὴν συνέχουσαν αὐτὴν πενίαν τὴν ἑαυτῆς [θυγ ]ατέρα [[ν ]] τῆς σωφροσύνης ἀπεστέρη [σεν . In a petition addressed to the epimeletes, P Petr III. 36 ( a ) .6 (Ptol.), a prisoner writes μεγάλη ἡ̣ ἀνάγκη ἐστιν καὶ τὸ πενιχρὸν εἶναι καὶ ὁρᾶν [τ ]ὸν θάνατον ὑποκείμενον [ἐν ] τῆι φυλακῆι .
