Middle to move one's furniture (when setting out for some other place, Xenophon, Cyril 8, 5, 4 ὅταν δέ ἀνασκευαζωνται, συντιθησι μέν ἕκαστος τά σκεύη); hence, 2. of an enemy dismantling, plundering, a place (Thucydides 4, 116); to overthrow, ravage, destroy, towns, lands, etc.; tropically, ψυχάς, to turn away violently from a right state, to unsettle, subvert: Act_15:24.

ἀνασκευάζω [page 37] P Oxy IV. 745 .5 ( c. A.D. 1) μ [ὴ ] . . . πάλιν ἑατοὺς ἀνασκευάξωμε [ν ] μὴ οὔσης χρήας , and we go bankrupt again without any necessity (Edd.). This really involves the meaning subvert found in Act_15:24 , drawn from the military sense, to plunder, dismantle a town. Vettius Valens has the word twice : p. 212 .20 , ἐὰν δόξῃ τις ἐν αὐταῖς ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκπλοκήν τινα πεποιηκέναι πράγματός τινος , ἀνασκευασθήσεται καὶ ἐπιτάραχον γενήσεται καὶ ἐπιζήμιον ἢ εὐκαθαίρετον καὶ προσκοπτικόν , and 283 .23 τῷ δὲ λ̄θ̄ ἔτει τοῦ πράγματος ἀνασκευασθέντος διὰ τὴν προϋπάρχουσαν ἔχθραν εἰς νῆσον κατεδικάσθη . Kroll (Index s.v. ) makes it here t. t. iudiciorum, the reversal of a judgement presumably. The noun (p. 228 .27 ) ἀνασκευασμοὺς τηκτῶν πραγμάτων does not look technical upset would seem to represent it, as in the phrase ἀνασκευαὶ πραγμάτων (four times).
