This dim. form, which is, however, to be translated simply bird in Rev_18:2 ; Rev_19:17 ; Rev_19:21 (cf. Mar_4:4 W), occurs uncontracted on the verso of P Petr III. 71 (iii/B.C.) οἱ θηρευταὶ τῶν ἀγρίων ὀρνέων : cf. also P Ryl II. 98 ( a ) .9 (A.D. 154 5) πᾶν ὄρν̣[εο ]ν̣, and P Lond 1259 .16 (iv/A.D.) (= III. p. 240) ὄρνεα ῑγ̄ . For other dim. forms see P Oxy XIV. 1729 .4 (iv/A.D.) ὀρνιθίων , and P Fay 118 .16 (A.D. 110) ἀγόρασον τὰ ὀρνιθάρια τῆς εἱορτῆς , buy the birds for the feast (Edd.).
