The itacistic form ὀρινός , which is read by WH in Luk_1:39 ; Luk_1:65 is amply attested in the papyri, where the word is regularly used to describe all canals on the border of the desert, e.g. P Strass I. 17 .4 (A.D. 124) ἐν ὀρινῇ ( sc. διώρυχι ) Πατσώντ (εως ) Βακχ (ιάδος ), on the desert canal of Patsontis at Bacchias (see the editor s Introd.). See also Aristeas 107, 118, and cf. s.v. ὄρος .
