Anm. 3; Kühner, § 335 Anm. 2), adverb, truly, in reality, in point of fact, as opposed to what is pretended, fictitious, false, conjectural: Mar_11:32 (see ἔχω, I. 1 f.); Luk_23:47; Luk_24:34; Joh_8:36; 1Co_14:25; Gal_3:21 and Rec. in 2Pe_2:18; ὁ, ἡ, τό ὄντως followed by a noun, that which is truly etc., that which is indeed (τά ὄντως ἀγατα ἤ καλά, P'lat. ὄντως [page 452] actually, indeed, as in Gal_3:21 , is seen in P Giss I. 22 .6 (time of Trajan) πρὸ π ]άν [τ ]ων εὔχομ [α ]ι . . . . τὴν [γλυκυ ]τάτην σου ὄψιν προσκυ [νῆσαι ] νυ̣̑ν ὄντως ἀμοιβ [ὴ ]ν [ . . . ] τῆς εὐσεβείας μου κτλ . For its use, virtually as an adj., preceded by the art. and followed by a noun ( 1Ti_5:3 ; 1Ti_5:16 , we may cite Ep. ad Diogn. x. 7, Arist. Apol. iv. 1. Cf. MGr τόντις , really : few adverbs in ως have survived in MGr.
