Νίγερ [page 427] This Latin surname, as in Act_13:1 , is found in an ostracon tax-receipt of A.D. 174 5, published in Archiv vi. p. 213, where one of the πράκτορες ἀργυρικῶν is Αἰβύτιος Νίγερ . It stands alone in a sepulchral inscr. of Roman times, Preisigke 46 Νίγερ μαχαιροφόρος , εὐψύχι . On the possibility that Νίγερ (Ac l.c. ) was a nickname first given to Συμεών at Antioch (cf. Act_11:26 ), see Kinsey in Exp T xxxv. p. 86 f.
