μήτρα [page 411]
μήτρα , womb ( Luk_2:23 , Rom_4:19 ), may be illustrated by a magic spell of possibly ii/A.D. , found among the Hawara papyri, Archiv v. p. 393, No. 312 .10 ff. ἄγε αὐτὴν τὴν Σαραπιάδ [α ] ἣν ἔτεκεν εἰδία μήτρα μαει οτε ελβωσατοκ κτλ . Wόnsch commenting on this (p. 397) refers to a tablet from Hadrumetum ( Audollent 264 .12 ff. ) with the words Victoria quem peperit Suavulva : das letzte ist kaum ein eigent-licher Name, sondern ein Ersatz fόr den unbekannten Namen der Mutter ( Berl. phil. Wochenschr. 1905, 1080). See also Archiv i. p, 429.
