1. prohibitive, let no one (cf. Buttmann, 31 (28)): (with 1 aorist subjunctive 1Co_16:11); with 2 aorist subjunctive, 2Th_2:8.
2. interrogative (Lat:num quis?) hath anyone etc.: Joh_7:48; (2Co_12:17, cf. Buttmann, § 151, 7; Winers Grammar, 574 (534)); where one would gladly believe what he asks about doubtfully (see μήτι, under the end): Joh_4:33.

μήτις = μή τις , is found in an indirect question in BGU IV. 1141 .34 (B.C. 13) καθ᾽ ἡμέραν δὲ τὸν θυλωρὸν ( l. θυρωρὸν ) ἐξερωτῶι μή τις ἔξω ὔ̣πνωκε , and daily I ask the doorkeeper whether any one has slept outside.
