Μελίτη [page 395] For this proper name in Act_28:1 . WH (cf. RV marg.) read Μελιτήνη with B*, but there can be little doubt that this reading is due to dittography of the following ἡ νῆ (σος ). Preuschen ( HZNT ab Ac l.c. ) states that the administration of the islands subject to Sicily was in the hands of a governor who bore the title municipi Melitensium primus omnium ( CIL X. 7495), and compares IG XIV. 601 Λ (ούκιος ) Κα [στρί ]κιος Κυρ (είνᾳ ) Προύδηνς ἱππεὺς Ῥωμ (αίων ) πρῶτος Μελιταίων (cf. Act_28:7 ) καὶ πάτρων ἄρξας καὶ ἀμφιπολεύσας θεῷ Αὐγούστῳ . . .
