We have not noted any instance of this verb in our sources, but for the corresponding λευκόω , whiten, cf. Syll 587 .140 (B.C. 329 8) τὸν βωμὸν τοῦ Πλούτωνος . . . λευκῶσαι , ib. 306 .34 (Delphi ii/B.C.) καὶ τὰ ἐνέχυρα αὐτῶν ἐμ πίνακας λελευκωμένους δύο ἀναγνόντω ἐν τᾶι ἐκκλησίαι . The subst. λεύκωμα , a white board used for public notices, is seen in such a passage as Syll 510 .5 (Ephesus ii/B.C.) ἃν δ᾽ ἂν οἱ δικασταὶ κρίνωσιν , ἀναγράψαντες εἰς λεύκωμα οἱ εἰσαγωγεῖς κτλ .
