3. the Alexandrian writers transferred the name κεφαλίς to the roll or volume itself: ἐν κεφαλίδι βίβλου, Heb_10:7 (from the Sept. of Psa_39:8 () for αΔΜξΐβΔμΗΜϊΞρΕτΖψ, as in Eze_2:9, and without βιβλίου, ; 2Es_6:2 (cf. Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT
κεφαλίς [page 342]
From meaning the little head or capital of a column (cf. P Lond 755 cited s.v. βάσις ) it is said that κεφαλίς came to be used of the knob ( cornu ) at the end of the stick round which a papyrus roll was wound, but no instance of this sense has been found. For the usage in Heb_10:7 (from Psa_39:8 [MT Psa_40:8 ]), in addition to the LXX passages ( Eze_2:9 ; Eze_3:1 ff. , 2Es_6:2 ), we may appeal to Ephrem 2 (Migne 65. 168) : ἔχοντα ἐπὶ χεῖρας κεφαλίδα , τούτεστι τόμον γεγραμμένον ἔσωθεν καὶ ἔξωθεν , where Birt ( Rhein. Mus. N.F. lxii. ( 1907), p. 488) understands κεφαλίς as = roll : cf. Gardthausen Grieck , Palaeographie .2 i. p. 141.
