This Markan Latinism ( Mar_15:39 ; Mar_15:44 f. : cf also Ev. Petr. 8ff.) for the familiar ἑκατόνταρχος may be illustrated from OGIS 196 (B.C. 32) where a Roman official records his visit to the temple of Isis at Phylae σὺν κεντορίωσι Ῥούφωι , Δημητρίωι κτλ . The soldier Apion writing to his father from Italy to announce his safe arrival signs himself as enrolled in the Κεντυρί (α ) Ἀθηνονίκη (BGU II. 423 .24 (ii/A.D.) = Selections , p. 92).
