ἱματίζω [page 304]
Found neither in LXX nor in prof. auth. , says Grimm. But P Lond 24 .14 (B.C. 163) (= I. p. 32) τοῦτ [ο ] ἐπιτελέσασα ἱματιεῖ αὐτήν , BGU IV. 1125 .8 (B.C. 13) ἐ ]μοῦ τρέφοντος καὶ ἱματίζοντος αὐτόν , P Tebt II. 385 .15 (A.D. 117) Ἥρωνος ἱματίζοντος τὸν παῖδα , P Ryl II. 153 .21 (A.D. 138 61) ἱματίζειν τὸν προγεγραμμένον μου υἱόν , and many exx. of the active = to provide clothing for, will dispel any idea that Mark ( Mar_5:15 ) coined this word. Cf. also P Oxy II. 275 .14 (A.D. 66) (= Selections , p. 56) τοῦ παιδὸς τρεφομένου καὶ ἱματισζομένου ( l. ἱματιζ ) ἐπὶ τὸν ὅλον χρόνον ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός , in a contract of apprenticeship, and similarly ib.
