Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT

θρέμμα [page 292] For this NT ἅπ . εἰρ . ( Joh_4:12 ) = cattle (AV, RV) we may cite P Oxy II. 246 .16 (A.D. 66) ἀπεγραψάμην . . . ἀπὸ γ [ο ]νῆς ὧν ἔχω θρεμμάτω [ν ] ἄρνας δέκα δύο , I registered twelve lambs which were born from sheep in my possession (Edd. : BGU III. 759 .11 (A.D. 125) ἐπελθόντες μοι . . . ποιμαίνοντι θρέμματα Ἀνουβίωνος , P Amh II. 134 .5 (early ii/A.D.) Πετ̣έα ὄντα ἐν ἀγρῷ μετὰ τῶν θρεμμάτων νυκτὸς ἀποσπάσαι , to seize Peteus by night while he was in the fields with the cattle (Edd.), and from the inscrr. Syll 293 .26 (B.C. 178 7) ποτάγειν τὰ ἰδιωτικὰ θρέμματα , OGIS 200 .11 (iv/A.D.) αὐτοὺς ἤγαγον πρὸς ἡμᾶς μετὰ καὶ τῶν θρεμμάτων αὐτῶν . With θρέμμα in its literal sense of nursling we may compare the use of θρεπτάριον in a Paris papyrus, p. 422 .18 τὰ ἀβάσκαντά σου θρεπτάρια , tes charmants petits nourrissons, and θρεπτός = foster-child in P Oxy II. 298 .5, .46 (i/A.D.), or foundling as in C. and B. i. p. 147 No.37 (cf. p. 350), where it is noted that θρέμμα has the same meaning.
