A good parallel to the use of this rare word (for class. ἡμιθνής ) in Luk_10:30 is afforded by P Amh II. 141 .13 (A.D. 350) where a woman lodges a complaint regarding an assault committed on her by her brother and his wife πληγαῖς ἱκαναῖς με κατέκτ̣ι [να ]ν . . . . ἡμιθανῆ καταστήσαντες , they nearly killed me by numbers of blows and left me half dead (Edd.).
