Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT

ἥκω [page 278] Preisigke 1046 (i/A.D.) Σεραπίων ἥκω πρὸς Σέραπι (ν ) πατέρ (α ) illustrates a common formula. Of greater importance is the use of the verb in relation to worship, as in Joh_6:37 , in such a passage as OGIS 186 .7 (B.C. 62) ἥκω πρὸς τὴν κ [υ ]ρίαν Ἶσιν : see Deissmann LAE , p. 356 n .6 . The aor. ἧξα , as in Rev_2:25 , may be cited from P Oxy VI. 933 .13 (late ii/A.D.) . . . μεγ̣[ά ]λην ἑορτὴν ἧ̣ξ̣α , I came to the great festival, and for the use of the perf. form owing to the perf. meaning, as ἥκασιν in Mar_8:3 ΰ ADN, cf. P Par 48 .9 (B.C. 153) (= Witkowski, 2 p. 91) ἥκαμεν εἰς τὸ Σεραπιεῖον βολάμενοι συνμῖξαί σοι , P Grenf II, 36 .18 (B.C. 95) καλῶς ἡμῖν ὧδε ἢ ἐν Διοσπόλει ἐὰν αἱρῆσθε πυρὸν ἀγοράσαι ἥκατε , also P Par 35 .30 (B.C163) ἀπεκρίθησαν ἡμῖν φήσαντες ἐπ᾽ ἐνεχυρασίαν ἡκένα [ι : see further Mayser Gr. p. 372. For other instances of the verb it is sufficient to quote ib. 49 .27 (B.C. 164 158) διὰ τοῦτο οὐκέτι ἥκει πρὸς ἐμὲ αἰσχυνθείς , P Oxy III. 531 .8 (ii/A.D.) ἐὰν γὰρ θεοὶ θέλωσι τάχιον πρὸς σε ἥξω μετὰ τὸν Μεχεὶρ μῆνα , ib. VII. 1025 .10 (late iii/A.D.) ἐξαυτῆς ἥκετε , come at once, and ib. X. 1252 recto .30 (A.D. 288 95) προσέταξεν . . . ἥκειν μετὰ τῶν ἀποδειξέων , gave orders to come with the proofs. See also the striking invitation to celebrate the accession of Hadrian, P Giss I. 3 .2 (A.D. 117) (= Chrest. l. p. 571 ), where the god Phoebus is represented as saying ἥκω σοι , ὦ δῆμ [ε , οὐκ ἄγνωστος Φοῖβος θεὸς ἄνα - κτα καινὸν Ἁδριανὸν ἀγγελῶ [ν .
