Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT
ἑβδομηκοντάκις [page 178]
If LXX Gen_4:24 is to be taken as determining the meaning of the phrase ἑ . ἑπτά in Mat_18:22 (see Proleg. p. 98 and cf. Moulton Gr. ii. § 72 D), the omission of the connecting and in the LXX as compared with the Heb. εΐωΡΔαΐςΘδ ωΡΔαΐς still leaves it uncertain whether we are to understand 70 + 7 or 70 Χ 7 : see McNeile ad Mt l.c. The phrase is found with the latter meaning in Test. xii. patr. Benj. vii. 4.
