Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT
Δαλματία [page 136]
The spelling Δελματία ( 2Ti_4:10 C 424** and other cursives cf. Δερματίαν Α ) appears in Preisigke 173 ( c. A.D. 200), the tombstone of T. Aurelius Calpurnianus Apollonides, who among other distinctions had been ἐπί (τροπος ) Δελματίας . It is supported by the derivative δελματική , the name of a kind of robe, spelt this way in BGU I. 93 .7 (ii/iii A.D.) καλῶς ποιήσεις διαπέμψας αὐτῇ τὴ [ν ] δελματικήν , P Oxy VII. 1051 .16 (iii/A.D.) δελματικῂ λινᾶ ᾱ̣, and the diminutive δελματίκιον which occurs twice in the last papyrus, and in ib. 1026 .10 (v/A.D.) δελματίκιον ὀνύχινον , an onyx-coloured Dalmatian vest (Edd.). See Deissmann BS , p. 182, where against the supposition of Alexandrian spelling (so Hort) is quoted CPR 21 .16 (A.D. 230) δαλματική . Dalmatica is the Latin spelling (Souter).
