Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT
Γαλατία [page 120]
The proximity of Γαλατίαν to Δαλματίαν in 2Ti_4:10 in itself suggests that by the former we are to understand European Gaul (cf. Γαλλίαν ΰ C); and this is confirmed by the famous Monumentum Ancyranum ( Res Gestae D. Augusti , ed. .2 Mommsen, p. lxxxv, 124) ἐξ Ἱσπανίας καὶ Γαλατίας καὶ παρὰ Δαλματῶν : see Zahn Intr. ii. p. 25 f. The inscriptional and literary evidence as to the meaning of Galatia in other NT passages may be left to the monographs on this burning question.
