TEN KEYS TO TOTAL VICTORY
(By Robert Wurtz II)
INTRODUCTION
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
(I John 5:4-5)
It is God's will that Believers walk and live in victory over sin. It is God's will that His children be overcomers. God's will is that the works of the Devil would be destroyed, and for this reason He sent Christ into the World (I John 3:8). There is a strategy to achieving victory and it requires perseverance. It requires discipline and long suffering. It requires God's grace and mercy. He has placed the weapons, defenses, and strategy in our hands to maintain victory over sin once we are born again and he expects that we take full advantage of ALL of them.
Victory as it is defined by Vine's Expository Dictionary means to conquer, overcome, and prevail, and that is exactly what God wants in His children. From Genesis 3:15 to Revelation 15:2 God has promised that the Saints will prevail. Satan is destined for the Bottomless Pit and desires to take as many souls with him as is possible. We are in a battle for our very souls and the thing to be feared the most is not merely the death of our physical bodies, but the eternal damnation of our souls.
Some have argued that victory will not come until God raises the Saints from the grave at the first resurrection, so there is little need to press toward the mark for the prize or simply live a life of dedication and holiness. Freedom from the penalty of sin is all they desire, and they exert little effort in being freed from the power of sin. Does that describe you? Are you allowing sin to run rampant in your life? Are you allowing the enemy to destroy your relationship with God with what you think are your 'secret sins.' There are no SECRET SINS. God sees them and so does the heavenly host. They have already embarrassed God and the enemy has already accused you before the Lord for them. Why not determine RIGHT NOW that you will walk away from them?
Although God will never take away our power to sin, He is ready and willing to free us from the power of sin, and there is a difference. God has freed us from the power of sin so the Devil is left to seduce us into submitting our liberty to Him and re-entangling ourselves in a web of sin from which we were once freed. As it is written: For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollution's of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire (II Peter 2:18-22).
There is a certain allurement that takes place whether a person is deceived by a false teaching or a demonic thought. There are many pollution's (v20) in the world today that are overcoming (v20) and entangling (v20) believers until they are in bondage (v19). Are you ensnared of the enemy? Are you captive to some sin? To you keep falling to the same sin over and over again? Have you just given up the fight and accepted yourself this way? Are you tired of being trampled by the enemy because of your besetting sins? God has given us the keys to unlock TOTAL VICTORY in our lives that Satan might be under our feet instead of us being under his.
