Michael Amerhom Youssef (1948–present). Born on September 25, 1948, in Asyut, Egypt, to Amerhom and Noza Youssef, Michael Youssef is an Egyptian-American pastor, author, and televangelist. Raised in a Christian home, he converted at 16 on March 4, 1964, during a revival led by a Lebanese evangelist, prompted by his brother’s invitation. Fleeing Egypt during the 1967 Six-Day War, he lived in Lebanon and Australia, studying at Moore Theological College in Sydney, where he was ordained and met his wife, Elizabeth. They moved to the U.S. in 1977, and he became a citizen in 1984, earning a Master’s in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary (1978) and a PhD in Social Anthropology from Emory University. Youssef served with the Haggai Institute (1978–1987), teaching evangelism globally, before founding The Church of The Apostles in Atlanta in 1987, growing it to over 3,000 members. In 1988, he launched Leading The Way, a media ministry broadcasting in 28 languages across six continents, focusing on Muslim outreach. He has authored over 50 books, including The Barbarians Are Here (2017) and Heaven Awaits (2024). Married to Elizabeth since 1971, he has four children and 13 grandchildren, living in Atlanta. Youssef said, “The Bible’s truth is uncompromising, and we must proclaim it boldly.”
