Mar Mari Emmanuel explains that the Old Testament law reveals human sinfulness and limitations, while the New Testament reveals God's grace and healing through Jesus Christ.
In this teaching sermon, Mar Mari Emmanuel explores the profound differences and connections between the Old and New Testaments. He explains how the Old Testament law was given to reveal human sinfulness and limitations, acting like an x-ray to diagnose spiritual illness. The New Testament, however, reveals God's grace and healing through Jesus Christ, the true physician. The sermon challenges listeners to understand God's consistent justice and mercy and to embrace the grace offered through Christ.

Why is the God of the Old Testament so difficult and bloody? Why did God write the law, the Old Testament? Why did he do it in the first place? You see, God wrote the law through his prophets in order to reveal who the human being really is. Now another question, why did he write the New Testament in order to reveal who God really is? He wrote the Old Testament to reveal who the human being really is and he wrote the New Testament to reveal who God truly is. So now we come between the law and grace.
The law is the fifth measure, grace is the sixth measure. John the Beloved spoke about them in his gospel chapter 1. In chapter 1 and I believe verse 17, he says, for the law was given through Moses, for the law was given through Moses, this is the fifth measure. But grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, this is the sixth measure.
For the law was given by Moses. So what did Moses do? He just gave the law that was given to him by God. But what about grace? Grace was made by Jesus Christ, not given by Jesus.
But Jesus made grace possible. So there is a humongous difference between Jesus, if some people think he's just a prophet, then Moses is the prophet. There is no comparison.
That's why Jesus is God, revealed in the flesh. For the law was given by Moses, fifth measure. But grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, this is the sixth measure.
My beloved, the human being was controlled by Satan ever since Adam transgressed against God in the Garden of Eden. Satan controlled the entire human race, all humanity without any differentiation or distinction. Therefore, God wanted through the law of the Old Testament, God wanted through the law to lift up this human being from the satanic level to the human level only.
So the law of the Old Testament, God gave it to the Israelite nation and in the hope through them to the entire world, so that God would lift that human being from the satanic level, which is now controlled by Satan, from that satanic level to the human level only. Thus, the laws which God gave in the Old Testament to the Israelite nation were at the human level. God could not have given humanity anything beyond their capacity.
So God gave them laws that were relevant to the human capability. Anything beyond the human capacity, God did not give. God did not give.
Now what is the human level? It's a question. What is the human level? The human is taken from the soil. So the human level is the level of the soil.
What is the level of the soil? The law of physics. What is the law of physics? For every action, there is a reaction. Equal in force, opposite in direction.
For every action, there is a reaction. Meaning the law of the Old Testament that was given by God to Israelite nation says, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. That was the law of the Old Testament.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. What does that literally mean? It means if you plug my eye, I'll plug your eye. And if you plug my tooth, I will come and plug your tooth.
In other words, love the one who loves you and hate the one who hates you. This is what humanity is capable of at its best. So as far as the human capacity is concerned, humans in the natural realm, we can only love those who love us and we can only hate those who hate us.
We can never love those who hate us. That is the natural law. That is the law of the Old Testament.
God elevated the human race of the Old Testament from the level of Satan. What is the level of Satan? Hate everyone regardless. Punch them without any reason.
Chop them for no reason because I just feel like it. Tough luck. That's Satan.
Humanity better than Satan. I'm not going to punch you until you punch me first. If you punch me once, I'll punch you once.
You punch me twice, I'll punch you twice. You punch me three times, I'll punch you three times. You plug my eye, I plug your eye.
You plug my tooth, I won't take you to Istanbul to reinstate the tooth. So God wanted to take the human race from the Old Testament, of the Old Testament, from the satanic level to the human level. That's why he gave them laws relevant to the human capacity.
He never gave them anything beyond their reach because the flesh is weak. That's all it can do. You can't ask a human, a person from this world, forgive your enemies.
They'll say, yeah you're crazy man. I'm gonna go and kill them all. That's the talk of the world and that's the talk of the law of the Old Testament.
Now, God could not have asked any more than this from the Israelite nation. Therefore, when God said to the Israelites, wipe the pagans from the land. You know, people say when we read the Old Testament, this God of you guys Christians you believe in, this God says, go and kill so-and-so, chop him, chop him, chop him.
So how come this God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament? When we come to the New Testament, this God is totally different and utterly different. This God says, if somebody, you know, strikes you on your cheek, to give him the other one. If somebody takes you by force a mile, go two miles, love your enemy, pray for those who persecute you.
Totally different Gods. You Christians, you don't know what you're doing. No Habibi, come I teach you.
Come I teach you. So when God said to the Israelites, wipe the pagans from the land. Now why God said to the Israelites, go and wipe the pagans from the land? Because in Isaiah chapter 8 verse 8, look what Isaiah is saying in 8 verse 8. He will pass through Judah, he will overflow and pass over, he will reach up to the neck and the stretching out of his wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.
So whose land is it? It is the land of Immanuel. So Israel is not the land of the Israelis nor the Palestinians, it is the land of Immanuel. And who is Immanuel? When we come to the New Testament, Immanuel is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
That is his land. Very controversial thing to say in our time and age. But I'm just good looking.
So the land is Immanuel and what does that word Immanuel mean? God with us. For he shall be called Immanuel also Isaiah prophesied. And who was called Immanuel? Jesus of Nazareth.
All glory to his holy and mighty name. So the land belongs to Immanuel Isaiah 8. And for those who believe in the Torah, they better believe in the prophecies and the Old Testament prophecies. They need to believe the land belongs to Immanuel, no one else.
Now God was never bloody. All it was the land was his and he gave it to the Israelites. He chose to give his land to the Israelites.
And God is free when he chooses to do things in certain ways. God has the right and no one can say no to God. So he said this is my land and I'm giving it to the Israelites.
And for as long as, so I don't want anyone to misunderstand here, for us and God is saying for as long as the Israelites worship me, God said to them go and wipe the pagans from the land. But the day the Israelites disobey me, I will send the Assyrians and the Babylonians and they will wipe the Israelites. God, our God is very fair and very just.
Yeah, so when he gave the land to the Israelites, he didn't give it just so they can do whatever they wish. They need to obey him and if they don't, he will bring other nations to discipline them. But as long as they are obeying him, he gave them the right to go and wipe the pagans.
Why? Because pagans cannot exist in a land that belongs to the true living God. And for them to dwell in the land that belongs to Emmanuel and they worship false gods, God will never accept it. God will never accept it.
You see, God is saying, you walk right, you will be all right. You walk right, you will always be all right. This is the law.
You break the law, you don't expect to be all right. Don't expect to be all right. And for this reason, God says in the Old Testament, if you fulfill the law, I will bless your produce, I will bless your children, I will bless your home, I will bless your health, I will bless your possessions and I will keep your enemies away from you.
But if you break the law, the opposite will happen to you. The opposite will happen to you. In Isaiah chapter 1 verses 19 to 20, it says the following.
If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. So you follow my rules, God says, you will be good.
But you disobey my rules, the sword will devour you. And when you look at the Israelite nation in their entire history, every time they worshiped Yahweh, the true living God, they conquered the lands and they conquered their enemies. But the day they came and disobeyed the true living God, the Assyrian people came and smashed the daylight out of them.
And this is a lesson for all of us. We are the Israelites in a way of the New Testament. We obey the Lord Jesus, we will live happily ever after.
We disobey the Lord Jesus, all hell will break, will break loose on us and against us. It's the same God, for God's sake, it's the same God. Now, so our beloved and worshiped God is not bloody at all, is not a harsh God, quite the contrary.
Our God treats the human being according to their level, exactly the same way parents treat their children according to their level. Would you treat your child when they were one year old the same way they are now 18? Of course not. When they were one, you treated them according to their level.
And when they were 18, you treated them according to their level and so on. So the older you grow, the treatment will change depending on the level you are at. That's how God treats us.
So the level of the Old Testament was the level of humanity. For every action, there is a reaction. I'm not asking too much.
I'm asking what you are capable of and what you're capable of as a human being outside of God. Love the one who loves you and hate the one who hates you. That's all you can do.
But when grace came, it's a different level. Therefore, the treatment of God is now different to all of us who are living in the time of grace, the New Testament church, which we will come to it next week. Now, but what happened with this law, the fifth measure, failed, could not save the Israelite nation.
All those who left Egypt, they all died in the wilderness. Their descendant entered the promised land with Joshua. Now the law failed, but the failure of the law, according to whose testimony? Like who testified that the law failed? Well, the law failed according to the testimony of the law itself.
The law said that the law failed. Now my beloved, let me put it this way so you can understand what the law really is and how far it goes. What's going on? I was saying, where is it? I'm trying to turn and then the cord is kind of stuck here on the cross.
There we go. That was not a joke. Okay.
Skinny guy said to the fat guy, what's going down brother? The fat guy replied and said everything. Come on love, kind of very quiet there. When we go to the doctor for a checkup and then the doctor writes a referral to go and see a radiologist for a scan, whether it's an x-ray, CT scan, MRI, far from all of them, right? So we go and take those scans and those tests according to that referral.
Now, when we took those results, the x-rays, the scans, the blood tests, when we took those results, did those scans heal our illness? They didn't, did they? But the question is then, why did you do it if they don't heal you? Why did you go? Naughty doctor, why did you send me to do some tests and the tests are good for nothing? They didn't heal me, the pain is still there. So the question is, why did you listen and go and do those tests? Oh, because the tests were the only way to reveal where my problem is and what my problem is. When I took those scans, those x-rays, those blood tests, now the doctor says, this is where your problem is and that's why you're having this pain and that pain.
But the x-rays did not heal me, they only revealed my problem, my illness. The x-ray machine is the law exactly or I should say the law is exactly that x-ray machine. The law came to reveal our problem but not to heal our problem because the x-rays do not heal your problem, they only reveal where your problem is.
So why did the law come? The law came to prove to us as that x-ray machine proved that we are all sinners. The problem of your weakness, your sickness, your stubbornness, your foolishness was that transgression. By breaking the law of God, that's where you started aching, breaking and dying.
If you hadn't broken God's word, none of this would have happened to you. So the law came as that x-ray machine and revealed my problem but that's as far as the law can go, it can't heal. So I took the x-rays and he said, oh you've got a lump bishop, you've got a lump.
So what do I do now? I put the x-ray on the lump, come on x-ray heal me please, come on x-ray heal me please. The x-ray will say nothing, the x-ray will say one thing, you've got a problem, you've got a lump. So how do I heal this? You need to take the x-ray back to the doctor and the doctor will prescribe you the medications for your illness.
The law is the x-ray machine, Christ is the doctor and it is with Christ medication is readily available. But who referred me to the x-ray machine? Christ. Why? Because I need to know what my problem is.
I need to go back to the law, for the law to tell me where I went wrong and when I realize where I went wrong, I'll go back to the doctor and I'll say, doctor please heal me. That's when we come back. You see, if we do not admit that we are sinners, if we do not confess our wrongdoings, the doctor cannot heal me and without the x-ray machine, I will never know what my problem is.
I don't know why I'm in pain but the x-ray machine revealed the source to my pain. So the law revealed the source to my problem but until I acknowledge it, until I confess it, until I take that result to the doctor who is Jesus Christ and then bow before his feet, holy feet and beg him for mercy, for forgiveness and beg him for healing, the doctor cannot heal someone that does not wish to go and see the doctor. The doctor cannot heal someone that refuses to see the doctor.
You need to go willingly, you need to go freely to the doctor and beg the doctor to heal you. That's the only time you are giving permission lawfully to the doctor to prescribe you medications for your illness and the medication Christ the King, the true doctor gave us are the seven sacraments of the church. Medication to our illnesses or illness.
Illness is me. Illness is the result of me which we'll talk next week. Now the law, the x-ray machine revealed three things in me.
Number one, there is sin in me. That's what the law revealed, that there is sin in me. Number two, the law revealed that all humans are corrupt and number three, the law revealed that the healing is coming through the Messiah.
So the law revealed that I'm a sinner. The law revealed that I am corruptible but also did not leave me at losing hope. It gave me hope as well.
The law said even though you're a sinner, even though you are corrupt, even though you are dying but there's good news coming in the near future. The medication is coming through the doctor of all doctors, the Messiah, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He is the only doctor that can heal your illness.
So now I ask you this, if anybody says that the God of the Old Testament was a killer, a blood, he was shedding blood left right No my beloved, God of the Old Testament said since humanity rejected me to be their own king ruling over their life, okay I left them to their innocence, it failed them. I left them to their conscience, it failed them. I left them to the governments, they failed them.
I left them to the fathers, the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Job. They all failed humanity and then I gave them the law and the hope to elevate them from the satanic level which they were adhering to him in the Garden of Eden. In the Garden of Eden humanity listened to Satan, rejected God.
So you fell under the control of Satan. In the fifth measure, the law, I gave it in the hope that I at least take you out of the satanic level and bring you back to the human level at least. But even in that you failed.
You broke all my laws. I gave you 10 commandments, you broke them all. Do not steal, you stole.
Do not kill, you killed. Do not lie, you lied. Do not commit adultery, you did.
You broke all my laws. Honor your father and mother, you failed. Do not worship any other God but me, you failed.
You failed. 10 commandments, 10 you couldn't handle. How can you handle the fullness of the law of God? How can you handle it? If 10 you failed in all of them, how are you going to handle more laws? So the law failed but I had no choice but to give you the law.
Why? That's my x-ray machine. I'm the radiologist now. So I took x-ray for all of you, the entire human race and the result said all humans are sinners, all humans are corrupt but the salvation is coming through the Messiah.
So when the x-ray machine gave that result, so the patient said, how does it look doctor? The doctor looked at the x-rays, he put them in that kind of a lighting box and the doctor looked and he said to the patient, it doesn't look very good. You're in deep trouble brother. Doesn't look very good.
Romans chapter 3 verses 12 and 23. Look at Saint Paul, what he says about the x-ray result. Romans 3 12 20 and 23 verse 12.
They have all turned aside. They have together become unprofitable. There is none who does good.
No, not one. That was the result. Thank you doctor.
All of you, you've turned away from God. None of you are profitable. There is not one who does good, not even one single one.
Verse 23. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That was the result of the x-ray machine.
For all have sinned and have fall short of the glory of God. There is not one that does good, not a not single one. The Lord Jesus comes in John chapter 10 and says, I am the good shepherd.
Wow. The Lord Jesus says, all humanity failed to be good. I'm the only one who is good and the word good can only apply to God because there is no one good but God and Jesus says, I am the good, not a, the good shepherd, meaning he's literally saying, I am God revealed in the flesh.
I wish I had time because something just came to my mind now. It's 7 28. Can I continue a little bit? Now please pay attention.
See when when when the Lord Jesus appealed to the to the disciples after resurrection, Thomas wasn't there. Thomas was one of the 12 apostles. He was not there the first time.
So the other disciples, when Thomas came, the Lord Jesus had already, he was gone. So they said, the Messiah is risen. Our Lord is risen.
We saw him. He just walked in through closed doors and windows and we saw him. Definitely he is the living Messiah as he promised.
As he said to us, I will rise. He did it. He is true to his word.
He is truly the Messiah. Thomas said, I will not believe until I see, until I touch. The Lord Jesus did not wish to leave Thomas in his doubt, in his suspicion.
The Lord comes again at another time and reveals himself again in that upper room when Thomas was present and then he calls Thomas. He said, Thomas, come here, touch me, put your finger in my wound and touch me and see it is I, no one else. I don't want you to be a non-believer.
I want you to believe because you are one of my 12 eyewitnesses. So what did Thomas say after touching the body of the Lord and realizing this is true? He bows and he says to the Lord, you're my God and my Lord. You're God and Lord.
Now the word and is a, is a, is a divider. There is God and Lord. When Adam broke God's word and saw himself, he realized he is naked.
Him and his beloved wife Eve, they hid behind the tree. The Lord, who came searching for Adam? The Holy Bible says the Lord God, the Lord God, the Lord God. When the Holy Mother went to greet Elizabeth, what did Elizabeth say? How blessed am I for the mother of my Lord to come all the way to greet me.
So Elizabeth says, the mother of my Lord. Thomas says, my God and my Lord. And the Lord God was walking in the garden saying, Adam, where are you? Why are you hiding? Now Thomas said, God, my God and my Lord.
Now if I ask anyone, can you ever see God? No. Can you ever see your God? No. Can you see your Lord? Yes.
So Lord, I can see, but God, I cannot see. Now Lord in Aramaic is the word Maria or Mario, Mario, Mario or Maria. Now Maria or Mario in Aramaic means Lord, but the word Maria in Aramaic also derives from the word Maria.
Now the word Maria is to do with shepherdhood. So when you say the Lord in Psalm 23, look at King David, the Lord is my shepherd. He didn't say God is my shepherd.
Because you do not see God, but do you see the Lord? Yes, because the Lord is the shepherd. Are you with me? So now you are my God and my Lord, my God whom I do not see, but through the Lord who is my shepherd, I see him and through him I saw God. You with me now? Okay.
So the word Christ is the Lord God. So when we come to receive the body and the blood, whose body and blood we receive? It is neither the body and the blood of God, because it's not biblical and it is nor the body and the blood of Jesus, because this is also non-biblical. But we receive the body and the blood of Christ.
Now Christ is the shepherd whom I saw with my naked eye and when I saw the shepherd who is the Maria, Maria, the Lord, through the Lord I saw the hidden God in him. He led me. Philip, truly I say to all of you, he who sees me sees the Father.
He who sees me. Philip, who did you see? I saw the shepherd. I saw my Lord.
But when you saw your Lord, your Lord took you to God that was hidden inside of him. So don't ever think the word Christ is not good enough. Please don't ever think.
It is absolutely biblical. Why don't all the apostolic churches say the body of God and the blood of God or the body of Jesus and the blood of Jesus? They can't say it. They're stuck.
They can only say the body and the blood of Christ. You see I don't want to go more into it because I know people will misunderstand. I just pray for unity.
That's what I'm trying to say. I just pray for unity. God is Christ.
Christ is God revealed in the flesh. Now and when did God put on the flesh? From the moment of conception. Hear this, oh Israel, the new testament.
If anyone, if anyone comes and says to you that certain Christians claim that Jesus Christ was God at the age of 30 only, that is nonsense. And if my church believes that Jesus Christ only became God when he was 30 years of age or God was revealed in that human form at the age of 30, not at the moment of conception in the womb of the virgin of all virgins forever, the crown of our glory, our holy mother Mary. If anyone says, if my church says that Jesus Christ was only God at the age of 30 in the river Jordan, then I will deny my church because that is not a church.
Jesus Christ was God and man at the same time from the moment the archangel Gabriel greeted the queen of heaven, the crown of our glory, mother Mary. From the moment he said, blessed are you full of grace because the power of the almighty will overshadow you and the one whom you're going to bear in your womb is the holy one, the son of the most high. From that moment, the second person of that trinity, the holy trinity, the triune God, the second person, the logos, the word Jesus, the word, the son of God, the second person came.
The moment he dwelt in the womb of the holy mother, from that moment he was united to that human form forever. Never, never, not even a split moment, not even a peak or second. You know what a peak or second is? A peak or second is the speed of light passing through a strand of hair.
Now light travels at 300,000 kilometers a second, 300,000 kilometers a second the light travels. Imagine 300,000 kilometers a second speed passing through a strand of hair, that's called the peak or second. In that peak or second there was not a moment that the divinity ever left humanity, impossible.
From conception on the cross, in the grave and forevermore in glory at the right hand of his father seated and forevermore he will always be God united to the human form, to the human body, that is Christ the king. Divinity united in humanity and the person of Christ. That's why it has to be the body and the blood of Christ and that's a topic on its own.
So my beloveds, innocence failed, conscience failed, governments failed, patriarchs, fathers failed, the law failed even though revealed our problem. But that's as far as the law can go, that's as far as the x-rays can go. They can only reveal your problem but they can never heal the problem until you take them to the doctor, which is the sixth measure, the grace.
We'll continue that next week. Now that is why it's not that there are two different gods but one God is revealing your problem and the same God came at the end of times through grace. When you go to the doctor and show the doctor your results and the doctor looks at the results and says, oh you've got a problem here, you've got a problem here.
Does the doctor get up and kill you or heal you? So what are you going to expect from the new testament God, who is the same God of the old testament? But the old testament, there was the law, x-ray. God is saying, well since you didn't want me to rule over you, well then cop it. You see because you didn't want me to rule over you, I was saving you all these headaches and heartaches.
Are you with me now? If you had allowed God to be the only sovereign authority over you, you wouldn't have been ever sick. You wouldn't have been in problems and troubles and mischiefs and sin. But you chose to do it your way.
Well your way went from bad to worse to uglier, uglier and uglier and uglier. But since I am the same God who is all love, I came at the end of times to say I'm receiving the x-ray now. I'm coming with that medication, my body and blood.
I'm sacrificing myself on the cross and I'm coming to wipe away your sins in order to give you true healing forever.
