Jane Lead

March 2. 1678. the Blood Under the Altar.

Jane Lead's sermon emphasizes the vital role of Christ's Blood in cleansing sin and the necessity of earnest prayer for spiritual strength and protection.
Jane Lead preaches about the necessity of cleansing from sin through the powerful and eternal forces made available by surrendering to God's wisdom and the Spirit of the Lord. She emphasizes the importance of being presented without blemish before the Throne of God, highlighting the continuous battle against sin and the need for the life-giving power of Jesus' blood to flow freely to overcome sin's stirring motion. Lead urges her listeners to pray earnestly for the cleansing blood of Jesus to keep flowing, as any interruption would lead to great inner turmoil and bitterness caused by the world's influences.

Text

My Internal Senses were still more opened and made attractive, drawing down Eternal Powers for guardian Might and Defence, against the Bryer-twisting Nature of Sin; Which we have been warned of so often by the Spirit of Wisdom, because the Spirit of our Lord doth know, he cannot make our way to the Throne presence, till we may be presented without any Leprous-Spot. For the confirmation of this, I did hear this Cry, saying, Endless will be the stirring motion of Sin, without a greater and more mighty force of the Lamb's Life-Blood, doth spring from under the Altar.

To which end Pray, and be Earnest, that now it may flow, as a Fountain free: For if at any time it should stop, great Strife and Soul-bitterness would be felt.

Because the Serpent with this World doth stir their dregs, and still cast in. It is the washing-Blood only, that must yet spring higher, to take away and expire the Sin by the Blood-offering.
