When I was a little boy, we had a practice that in school we did these practice drills where we learned how to duck and hide under our wooden desk in case of a nuclear war. What good they would have done is humorous now looking back on it, and our government is still dishing out helpful information like that to us today. Little did we know at the time, however, how close we actually were to being annihilated by a nuclear blast a thousand times more powerful than Hiroshima.
The Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis was as close as the world's ever come to destroying itself. If history is any indicator, I believe a nation can destroy itself from the inside, just like ancient Rome and Greece. The Roman army was once the most feared military power on the planet, but do you fear an Italian army today, friends? No, it's laughable.
And Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet premier during the Cuban Missile Crisis, made a statement I've never forgotten. He said he did not fear America because America would one day implode upon itself. Well, those were prophetic words.
I look at this country today as it was now back to 1962 at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. 1962 marked the end of public prayer in school when the Supreme Court said it was not allowed anymore. Why? We kicked God right out of the classroom in America back then, and since 1962, our classrooms have become killing grounds in mass killings.
America's been tearing itself apart ever since from the inside out and becoming a moral sewer that spills out upon the world, polluting it by her perverse examples. Prior to 1962, there was a fear of God in the land. Women dressed modestly with their skirts down to their ankles, and they wore white gloves and hats on their head when they went outside.
And if a woman was caught half-dressed back in those days, she was arrested for public indecency. They enforced such laws in America back then. Now women go out butt-naked, and it's accepted by our perverse society.
One of the reasons God destroyed the earth in Noah's day with a flood was because the land was filled with violence. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them, and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Just this week, a madman went to a grocery store in Arkansas and gunned some people down, killing several, critically wounding the others.
When will the senseless violence in this country cease? It won't unless this nation turns back to the God of the Bible. Sin is the rune of human society. Take away the fear of God and conscience, and men become beasts and devils to one another.
America right now is a powder keg poised on the brink of civil war. There's so much hatred in this country, hatred for man against man, political hatred, race hatred, religion hatred, people hatred. It's a wonder God just doesn't wipe us off the face of the earth right now, friends.
When God said to Noah, I will destroy man, the word destroy in the Hebrew is a very significant word. It's the word wipe, like you'd wipe off a dirty plate. That's where we stand in America today.
We are a dirty, perverted nation that needs wiping. We as a nation have legislated God right out of our country, but I don't blame the White House, and I don't blame the courthouse, but I do place the blame on the church house. The American church kicked God out of her sanctuaries long ago and replaced him with loud music, flashing disco lights, entertainment, and laughter.
And God has left us to our own devices. He's withdrawn his presence from among us. Why? I've never seen a time in my life where the American church was so dead spiritually that it's on life support.
We seem to get by with jokes and light Bible teaching because we as Christians are walking zombies ourselves. We are so dead asleep spiritually that only an atomic blast could wake us, that or revival. But the main question is, can God send revival to a church that does not want it? A church that sees no need for it.
They just like the status quo. They like things just the way it is. I believe God is a dynamite God who can do whatever is needful and necessary for his glory.
And if sin and revival to the American church is the only way to save this nation from destruction, then that's what he'll do. But also believe that rebels can provoke a sovereign only so long before he gathers his armies to destroy them. We may have already filled up the cup of our iniquity.
Heaven help us. If anybody cares about their children's generation, then you better get down on your faces, friends, and get on your knees and go to God in repentance and tears and brokenness and prayer and seek him in utter desperation to not destroy us and give us what we deserve, but to show mercy and save us before it's too late.
