I want to spend a little time, friends, before we go to our time of prayer in Psalm 37. And you can turn in your Bibles there now, friends. We will be in verses 3 through 5. Psalm 37 is about the happy state of the godly.

As contrasted with the short-lived prosperity of the wicked, we will focus our thoughts on the happy state of the believer and God's promises to him and his written word. And there are three aspects from our text that I'd like to draw out for us today. And these three aspects are found in the three words Trust, Delight, Commit.

And that's the title of my message today, friends. Trust, Delight, Commit. Hear now is the word of God, and may God's Spirit attend the reading of his holy word.

Trust in the Lord, and do good. So shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the Lord. Trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass. I will stop there.

Notice, friends, our three aspects of this text as seen in the words Trust, Delight, and Commit. For I believe we have here the pathway to an intimate walk with God that is both rewarding and refreshing. David says that we must trust in the Lord.

This is faith. Oh, how God built David into a man of faith, to where he could face a giant and trust his God. Here in our text, David states that it is our faith in God that gives us stability in life, to where we can dwell in peace in the land, no matter our outward circumstances, that we shall be fed because God is true to his promises.

So we are to trust God by faith, and in doing so, he will strengthen our faith. Next, David tells us to delight ourselves. To delight ourselves in who? Delight thyself in the Lord, and he shall do what? Give thee the desires of thine heart.

Oh, friends, how true this is. I remember years ago that I was driving in my car and praying, and I was asking God why he gave me the ability to write, but he was not using those talents for him. And tears streamed down my face that day as I drove home in my car, and God saw my tears, and he heard my cry.

For two weeks' time, I was out in Santa Barbara, California, meeting with the widow of J. Sidlo Baxter, as she was giving me permission to write an authorized biography on his life. God not only gave me the desires of my heart, but so much more, as he multiplied my pen ministry through the years, to where I have eighteen books in print today, blessed be his holy name. When we delight ourselves in the Lord, it is then that he delights to use us for his glory.

Lastly, David says to commit our way to the Lord, and he says if we commit our way to the Lord, then we can trust him to bring it to pass. That means our deliverance and answer to prayer. The original language of commit thy way literally means to roll thy way upon the Lord.

O friends, roll your burden upon the Lord Jesus, for his yoke is easy, and he will shoulder that burden with us, with him taking the heavier part of the load. Trust, delight, commit, what wonderful principles to employ, and what wonderful blessings we will derive from doing these three aspects of our little psalm. Let us go now to the Lord in prayer.
