E.A. Johnston asserts that America's moral and spiritual decline began when the nation rejected God, leading to societal chaos and a loss of divine favor.
In 'The Wheels Came Off America,' E.A. Johnston delivers a prophetic message tracing America's decline to its rejection of God, beginning with the 1962 Supreme Court decision removing prayer from public schools. He vividly recalls the societal changes and unrest of the 1960s, highlighting the consequences of turning away from divine authority. Johnston warns of the nation's continued moral decay and calls for reflection on the possibility of repentance and restoration.

I've been around for a while now, friends, and it's only by God's grace that I made it through the storms I've passed through to be before you now, but I come with what I feel is the reason why we are in the shape we are in here in pagan America today. And I believe I can put my finger on the sore spot of this country when the wheels came off, and we've been skidding into moral ditches ever since the day the wheels came off America. And that's the title of my message this evening, friends, the day the wheels came off America.
When I was a little boy, I stood up in my public school room and we prayed the Lord's Prayer before class began. It was a time in America before the Beatles invaded. It was a time in America before Vietnam and the hippies.
It was a time in America before school shootings. It was a time in America when women still had modesty as their skirts came to their ankles, and there was still such a thing as shame in society back then. The states had blue laws against public indecency, and there was a sense of decorum still in society in the early 1960s.
I can even say back then we were still a nation under a fear of God in the land. It was a time also when Christianity still influenced the world instead of the world influencing Christianity. But something happened in our judicial system in 1962 where there was a landmark decision of the Supreme Court in a case called Angle versus Vitale where the court ruled that it was unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and encourage its recitation in public schools.
That's when America took sides against God and kicked God out of our public school system. And when America took sides against God, that's when God took his hands off America and the wheels came off this country. The 1960s was the most violent bloody decade of my life as I saw street riots and police cars burned and I saw anarchy in the streets as it became chaos and order of the day.
It was in the 1960s that JFK was assassinated, Bobby Kennedy assassinated, Martin Luther King assassinated. The riots got so bad in the city of Chicago where I lived that my mother had to drive me to Michigan to get away from all the blood being spilled out on the streets. Our young men were being drafted and sent over to Asia Minor to be shot down by snipers in Vietnam while hippies and draft dodgers turned over police cars and set them on fire as riots broke out all over this land because the wheels had come off this nation of ours.
If you lived through it, you know what I'm talking about, friends. And strangely, at the same time, the churches in the land began to lose their voice of authority by compromising with the world. Things have gone downhill ever since the 1960s, which I call the decade of rebellion.
We as a nation rebelled against God and took sides against him. We turned our back on God and today in pagan America, we mock God and shake our sinful fists in his holy face and dare him to do anything about it. We have legalized just about every known sin and as a sin loving society, we promote sin throughout the land.
Historians tell us ancient Rome was destroyed because it had become one big brothel. America, from coast to coast, has become one big brothel. When the wheels came off America, she has been continually spinning out of control and soon will come to a final crash so sudden and so complete that she will take her place on the ash heap of history.
Is there any hope for America? A provoked God only knows.
