E.A. Johnston warns that refusing to surrender any area of one's life to the Lordship of Christ is the fatal spot that will send a person to hell.
In this challenging sermon, E.A. Johnston confronts believers and seekers with the critical necessity of submitting fully to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He exposes the dangerous rebellion many harbor in their lives that blocks true salvation and warns of the eternal consequences of partial surrender. Johnston calls for honest self-examination and total submission to Christ’s authority as the only path to assurance and eternal life.

My Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5 17. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away.
Behold, all things are become new. We live in a day, friends, of a lawless church in a sin loving society out of control. The church is lawless and out of step with God because Amos 3.3 is an indictment of the modern church today.
Can two walk together except they be agreed and God says no because the church is out of step with God. She is out of favor with God and has no influence upon society. The most hated doctrine today in the church is not the doctrine of election.
Did you hear me? I said the most hated doctrine in the church today is not the doctrine of election, but the doctrine of the Lordship of Christ. You start preaching the absolute Lordship of Christ and you'll have a fight on your hands. Church people will say you are preaching heresy, but it is all the unregenerate church people who hate the doctrine of the Lordship of Christ because they don't know Christ as Savior because they refuse to take him as their Lord.
There exists in their life a spot, a spot they refuse to give to God and that spot in their life will send them to hell. They've put up a keep off sign on that area of their life and have told God to keep his hands off that area in their life. Whether it's a call to the mission field or a call to preach or an area of sin that brings you pleasure, your will is pitted against the will of God and you draw back and recoil when he reaches over to put his finger on that sore spot in your life.
I was speaking to a college student and she told me she felt led to go to the mission field full-time, but when she looked into it she found out it didn't pay enough money so she decided to get into the medical field. I was talking to a man who told me that God called him to be a pastor and he tried it for a little while but he didn't like being poor so he became a businessman instead. We fight against God's will for our lives and we feel we can run our lives better without his interference.
We buck God and take his son as Savior but reject him as Lord. I've preached in churches on the Lordship of Christ and I've had deacons come up to me after with hatred in their eyes but I didn't come here to tell you funny stories and entertain you on your way to hell. I'd rather tell you the truth and be free your blood on my hands at the judgment if I can only get some of you to be honest enough with God so God can deal with your soul by his convicted spirit.
Only God, friend, can get your attention tonight but you have to be willing to do business with him. Some of you love your own way and you'd rather sit and rule on the throne of your life. There's no room for anybody else much less the Lord Christ and if you remain in your stubborn condition because of that spot in your life that you are not willing for Jesus Christ to be Lord of you will one day just go on to hell when you die with your hand protecting that sore spot that sent you in your rebellion to God to hell.
The devil rebelled against the will of God and was kicked out of heaven and he will one day be chained up in that bottomless pit of hell because of that rebellion. How can God overlook your rebellion against him? God saves a sinner by crossing their wills at the point of their rebellion. The trouble is today we don't believe our bibles.
If the scripture is true Jesus demands total submission and surrender to him but we don't believe that. We try to climb up to heaven some other way by crawling over the scarred back of Jesus and sneaking up there on our own terms but it is that very spot of rebellion in your life, friend, that will keep you out of God's heaven and send you down to devil's hell. Throw down your shotgun of rebellion at the feet of a sovereign and bow to him as your complete master.
Listen, friend, the average unsaved man is willing to be saved of everything except one thing. He is willing to come under the rule of Jesus Christ everywhere except one place. They have a point of rebellion somewhere that they're not willing to be delivered from and that one thing will sink them for sure as a little leak will sink a ship and a little bullet will kill a man just as much as a bigger one.
There are as many who sit and serve in churches over this land who've made a profession but will go to hell in their rebellion. Now you listen to me, friend, you can't play games with the crucified Christ who suffered on a bloody cross for sin. He gave his all at Calvary.
How can we think we can smuggle our souls into heaven without surrendering our all to him? Do you really think God will let a rebel into his holy heaven? Until your rebellion is crushed and you surrender to do his will, there is no salvation. Now that's why this doctrine of the absolute lordship of Jesus Christ is so hated today, particularly in our churches. We want heaven and we want salvation but we want it on our terms.
But playing games with God will only get us shoveling coal in hell. Jesus shed his very blood and he demands your absolute submission to him. Where is your point of rebellion? Where is that rotten spot in your life, friend, that keeps you from total submission to him? Some of you wonder why you don't have any assurance of salvation.
Where's your spot? What's the sore spot? We better start preaching the old gospel again, the one that has rights and claims on a follower of Christ Jesus. There may be someone here tonight within the sound of my voice that you think you're saved but you're not. If you're not truly saved, friend, wouldn't you want to know that now? I would.
I wouldn't want to risk hell over it. You better let God put his finger on that sore spot in your life and give it up to him or risk having that sore spot send you to hell. Let us pray.
