I believe a sovereign God can plant a nation, and I believe that same offended sovereign can uproot a nation. I believe the song, God Bless America, is correct, but today we must be honest enough with ourselves to place that song in the past tense, God blessed America, because he is no longer blessing what this nation has become, and that is a nation who has turned her back on God. America, once favored by God, is now a nation who has rejected the God of the Bible and has done everything in her legislative power to outlaw him and the land.

One is only to study the history of this once great republic to see that America used to be the land of revivals. The Great Awakening under Edwards and Whitefield was so deep in its influence that Ben Franklin said of his city of Philadelphia that it seemed the entire city had become religious. It was a day when Harvard, Yale, and Princeton were training grounds for ministers of the gospel.

Now they are hotbeds of liberalism and anti-God spirit. God blessed America, bringing her through the Great Awakening as colonies of England to the founding of this once great nation of ours. We were a land of religious freedom, and there was a fear of God in the land.

Then God blessed America with the Second Great Awakening under Nettleton and Finney as America was shifting from an agricultural society to an industrialized one. Steel railroad tracks were laid from one end of this country to the other as the great locomotives made travel more accessible to the masses. And gradually, from that time to this, America shifted away from God as she focused more on her prosperity until she became so proud and self-reliant she completely rejected the living God of the Bible.

Proverbs 29, 18 declares, Where there is no vision, the people perish. But he that keepeth the law, happy is he. As we have become a more lawless nation, we lost our vision of the Creator God.

That's why there's so much lawlessness in the land today. And our churches today are jam-packed with a lawless generation that knows nothing of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Holiness was thrown out the window of our churches years ago about the same time we quit preaching the gospel of my Bible.

The reprobation of America is seen by several stages of decline in our society. There used to be a sense of shame in society. But television fixed that because television programming produced by a God-hating Hollywood desensitized this nation to sin.

And when that happened, we lost our sense of shame in society. All the wheels of common decency have come off in this immoral and perverted, sin-soaked country of ours. Secondly, we gradually lost our fear of God in the land, and this is a sure sign of reprobation.

Thirdly, America gradually began to outlaw God and his holy written word and public prayer by legislating God out of our public school system, our judicial system, and our government. Fourth, we as a nation have legalized sin and we promote sin, which is a dead giveaway of a nation's reprobation. And lastly, it is a solemn sign from God of a nation in reprobation when he removes his prophets from a land without replacing them.

Such was the case with Israel, who stoned the prophets and ultimately rejected the Son of God to their own hurt and ultimate destruction. Such is the case in America today, whose pastors are more like polished professionals who run their churches like a CEO would run his company. There are few prophets in the land, and they are in danger of extinction.

Maybe it's about time we change the words of another popular song, America the Beautiful to America the Reprobate. Heaven help us all!
