When you're driving down the road, and your tire hits a pothole in the road, it can knock your wheels out of alignment, or it can give you a blowout, depending on how fast you're going. Just like that pothole in the road, there is a rotten spot in your life that has never come under the rule and reign of the Lord Jesus Christ, and although you may have been baptized and joined the church, that rotten spot in your life will one day derail you and send you to hell. If you're not safe, friend, it's because there's a rotten spot in your life that you are not willing for Jesus Christ to be Lord of.

In John chapter 3, we read, and this is the condemnation, that light is common to the world, and men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone that doeth evil, hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. There is great danger in a false profession of faith.

There is a great need for concern in an empty religious profession. What that means is, you didn't mind being baptized and joining the church. You didn't mind serving on the deacon committee, because it gave you a little power and prestige.

You didn't mind singing in the choir, so you could be seen, and you didn't mind tithing to the church to make yourself feel better. But you draw back over one thing. The reason you are on the road to hell is that you are not willing for Jesus to be your Lord.

You don't believe in lordship, because you are protecting that rotten spot in your life. You refuse to let it go or give it up, and that one thing is standing as a roadblock to heaven for you. You're going to hell faster than a red Ferrari, because you are rebelling against the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here's where the rubber meets the road in your life, friend, where God crosses your will at your point of rebellion. And your will is either going to be broken now in real heartfelt repentance, where you turn from that rotten spot in your life, or your will will be broken at the final judgment, where you are found out as a fraud and a fake, and you were led away to that burning lake of fire. God saves people by bringing them under his rule.

You must come to the end of yourself and give up your most beloved sin and come in glad submission to the rule of the Lord Jesus Christ in your life. But you claim you're saved without Christ being your Lord. That's because you love to have your own way.

You love darkness rather than light. But you're going to hell because you're rebelling against the lordship of Christ, even though you are the chairman of the deacons. Where is your point of rebellion? God can put his finger on it, but you've told him to keep his hands off that area in your life.

And it's that rotten spot that stands between you and salvation. You're willing to be saved of everything except that one thing. You're willing to come under the rule of Jesus Christ everywhere except that one place.

But my friend, you will not win in the end. You just make a profession now and go on to hell and your rebellion. You were like the devil who said in Isaiah, I will ascend into heaven.

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the height of the clouds.

I will be like the most high. Where is your rebellion? Where is the rotten spot in your life that keeps you barred from heaven? God will allow no rebels in his holy heaven. Listen to me friend.

I plead with you until your rebellion is crushed. And you surrender to the lordship of Christ. There is no salvation.

Being a good Baptist won't keep you out of hell. Being a good Presbyterian won't keep you out of hell. You must surrender to the claims of God in Christ.

Where self is dethroned and another is enthroned there. The Lord Jesus Christ. When that happens, God will implant a disposition for holiness in you.

And you will desire to live a God-centered life that brings glory to God.
