Great God, we as a nation have forsaken thee. We have rejected your law and have enacted our own laws, which call evil good and good evil. We are a bloody nation that reels to and fro from one public massacre to another.
We have offended thee, great God, and we have replaced thee with idols of our own hands. We have forsaken you, and it appears you have forsaken us, and rightly so. This republic was founded upon a acknowledged reliance upon thee, and as a nation, our model became, in God we trust.
But we do not trust you anymore. We do not even want you anymore. We live as a people who have rejected God and the word of God, and we live solely for our own profit and pleasure.
But there was a time, great God, when you were a foot in the land through spiritual awakenings and powerful revivals, which gripped this nation with eternity and the God of eternity. Your holy name was once held high both in the pulpits of the land and in the home altars, as prayer was the glue that held this nation together through war after war and national disaster. But we don't need you anymore, for we are a self-sufficient and a proud people.
But Lord God, Jehovah, forgive our blindness, for we have lost sight of Calvary. We have lost sight of your goodness and your mercy, and we have lost sight of your long-suffering nature. We as a people have pushed you away and replaced you with sports and entertainment.
And what is the result of all our foolishness? Our teenagers are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Our young people don't know right from wrong, because what is right in our own eyes is good. We as a nation are morally corrupt.
We as a nation are spiritually bankrupt. We are a perverse people who shake our fists in your face and dare you to do anything about it. And what have you done in response to all of this? Have you not destroyed us? No, much worse than that.
You have withdrawn yourself from among us and have left us to our own devices. Jesus is just a cuss word in our country. Your Bible is a hated book.
And from all of this, we hate one another and pervert one another and murder one another, because we are no longer under your rule as a nation. And we wallow like pigs in our filth and decay as we drink the swill of the filthy sewer that has spilled out upon society. But our only hope is in you, Almighty God.
This once-great Republic cannot stand as it is much longer without imploding upon herself. Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock, thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth, turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved. Send a mighty revival, O Lord, upon this land and turn this nation back to thee.
Come and save our godless teenagers, O Lord, who have debauched themselves and ruined themselves with multiplied sins. And it is our prayer, great God, that our churches will once again be houses of prayer rather than houses of entertainment, and that you will be pleased to come and dwell in our midst and reestablish your prominence and preeminence in our sanctuaries once again. Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts, look down from heaven and behold and visit this vine.
We pray these things in the strong name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
