Needed a God-Sent Prophet

The greatest need in our land today is not a new president, nor new congress, nor new educational system, nor new judicial system. The greatest need in our land today is a prophet, a man sent from God, God's man who will stand in the gap between heaven and earth, between mortal man and almighty God, a holy man who is so wholly sold out to God, so intoxicated with Christ, and so consumed with eternity that his very footprints leave a smoky trail of the lingering fire of God, a man whose desperate life of prayer has left fingerprints on the horns of the altar in glory, a man whose emboldened faith and Enoch-like walk with God moves mountains of resistance and proves that the God of the Bible is alive and interested in the most minute requests of man. Listen friends, God will always raise up an Elijah whose prayers impact a sleeping nation.

The church in each generation has had individuals who live upon their knees, whose prayers reach heaven with a holy violence. India had her pray and hide, China her Hudson-Taylor, England her Puritans, Scotland her Covenanters, America her fiery E.M. Bounds, voices which gained the attention of the throne room startled angels and shook the gates of hell, making even the demons quake and tremble with their desperate prayers. I believe our nation today needs to take out a billboard on every corner with the following words for a desperate hour.

Needed a God-sent prophet, and that's the title of my message today friends. Needed a God-sent prophet because this nation has a dearth of God called men who walk with God and are anointed by the spirit of God. We desperately need a man raised up by God who has vision and power to shake the masses with a new spiritual fire, a man who under God will usher in a God consciousness to this nation once again.

We need a man who does not fear man but only fears the Almighty, a prophet who will not be afraid to stand before president or king and proclaim with conviction, thus saith the Lord. My text can be found in 2 Kings chapter 9. You can turn in your Bibles there now. We will appear in the life of the prophet Elisha.

I will be in verses 1 through 10. Please turn in your Bibles there now friends. I will read this portion of scripture to us and it is my prayer that the spirit of God will be pleased to attend the reading of his holy word.

And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets and said unto him, gird up thy loins and take this box of oil in thine hand and go to Ramoth Gilead and when thou comest thither look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi and go in and make him arise up from among his brethren and carry him to a inner chamber. Then take the box of oil and pour it on his head and say, thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door and flee and tarry not.

So the young man, even the young man the prophet went to Ramoth Gilead and when he came behold the captains of the host were sitting and he said, I have an errand to thee oh captain and Jehu said, unto which of all us? And he said to thee oh captain and he arose and he went to the house and he poured the oil on his head and said unto him, thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord even over Israel and thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of the Lord at the hand of Jezebel for the whole house of Ahab shall perish and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisses against the wall and him that is shut up and left in Israel and I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Beishah the son of Ahijah and the dog shall eat Jezebel and the portion of Jezreel and there shall be none to her and he opened the door and fled I will stop there here is a man a prophet sent a god on a god-sized mission to anoint kings and bring down other kings he is a man unafraid of men even a king he speaks hard words fresh from the heart of God to a godless people God's word will stand what is said will be done thus saith the Lord and that's what we need today friends a man a prophet a god-sent man who will not be afraid to stand before congress stand before the president and read them the right act and say thus saith the Lord repent or go on to hell oh friends how we a god to stand up to the puppet thrones of men and warn them that the wicked will be cut off and there's a judgment day for all mankind that there's one God the living God of the Bible and that one day every knee shall bow to his son Jesus Christ there is a verse in the book of Jude which speaks of this kind of man a man who prays in the Holy Ghost Jude 1 20 declares but ye beloved building up yourselves on your most holy faith praying in the Holy Ghost listen friends to pray in the Holy Ghost means that you first must be anointed by the Holy Ghost filled with the Holy Ghost and sensitive to Holy Ghost for to pray in the power of the Spirit means unobstructed access to the Almighty influence to gain his attention and power to attain answers to our pleading petitions for praying in the Holy Ghost storms the portals of heaven with violence shuts up the heavens from rain and makes fire fall upon the drenched altar of sacrifice it makes kings tremble and kingdoms shake up for a man praying in the power of the Holy Ghost has the ability to shake strong cities off their foundations and the potential to send mountains tumbling into the sea to startle the very angels of heaven and rattle the red hot gates of hell i wish everybody in this land would walk around with a sign that read unneeded a god-sent prophet i wish every magazine cover read needed a god-sent prophet i wish every politician would stand and admit to the nation unneeded a god-sent prophet i wish every pastor and every pulpit in this land would be honest enough with his congregation to cry out this coming sunday unneeded a god-sent prophet unneeded a holy man of prayer to intercede on behalf of this wicked and god-forsaken land uh listen friends we need a prophet full of god's spirit a man full of the spirit and anointed with the spirit and praying in the spirit knows no resistance has no opposition fears no earthly mortal and conquers all unearthly enemies for praying in the power of the Holy Ghost is the essence that makes prayer effectual and fervent as the apostle declares that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much for a righteous man to be praying with fervency and heat in the Holy Ghost is to have great influence upon one's generation and avail much for eternity god has his men in the shadows he's molding and making them now he's molding his men uh soon he'll thrust them out one by one to impact an entire nation but how desperately we need such a man for this tragic hour it all boils down to how a man shuts himself up with god ezekiel had his river kabar elijah's brook kareth they were god's men who were saturated with the fragrance of god they knew their god and walked closely with him had a mantle of authority upon them uh listen friends we don't need more professionals in our pulpits who spend their free time out playing on their sports and entertainments we need a god-called man for a god-sized task and that is to shake this nation and bring it back to god we need men who live on their knees and hunger only for eternity men who know their god and know how to pray to gain the ear of the almighty but there's a cost involved in gaining such a prayer life and few want to pay the price or suffer the cost for a prayer life that grips the attention of the heavenly throne room is not built beneath calm sunny skies but shaped during dark sorrow-filled nights a serious prayer life is hammered out on the anvil of pain and anguish desperation and despair when hope hangs on a tattered thread and all human resources are gone there and only there does the answer to the request come here is where the vital prayer life commences which gains the cupped ear of the almighty as he leans over to listen more intently to the pathetic sobs and anguished heart cries which in desperation reach out and grab hold of his robe of righteousness and does not let go until the answer is attained to become a person of prayer is to be a shrill holy note which continually rings the ears of angels and rattles the gates of glory a true prayer life is not born out of comfort and prosperity but it's developed through trials and adversities in your leanness you will learn to lean upon him though you're rolling on stormy seas you'll learn how to effectively storm heaven's portals for deliverance when friends fail disappoint and desert you you will seek and find favor with your faithful friend jesus a desperate life of prayer shakes the gates of hell and influences a generation all for the glory of god oh friends i pray that god will make each one such a person of prayer i pray that the god of the bible will raise up for our day a true prophet of god we live in a day of a dearth of prophets it almost seems that god is clearing the land of them to bring down a sudden destruction upon us i pray that god rather will have mercy upon us and send out his man for our day let us pray great god you have blessed this land with revivals and spiritual awakenings in former times you raised up your men your prophets for your strategic hour to be a blessing of thy people and to bring glory to thy holy name we ask in your mercy to raise up a band of men who are your men stamped with eternity men raise up a whipfield or a moody for our day how desperately we need a touch from heaven upon our churches oh lord send us that spirit to quicken us and strengthen us and to ignite us with your holy fire we need god called man to do your work great king send us a prophet at this hour to stand in the gap for this nation and to move this nation back to thee help us great god to be the servants you want us to be change us holy king to serve you wholly with our lives touch us afresh today lord we pray this in the strong name of the lord jesus christ
