In this powerful teaching, E.A. Johnston addresses the critical failure in modern preaching to uphold the Lordship of Christ, calling for a return to biblical authority and uncompromising proclamation. Our congregations today are comprised of authority-fighting, law-breaking, self-satisfied individuals who stand with the same crowd in my Bible that yelled, we will not have this man reign over us. And the main reason for all this disharmony and discord is the failure of preachers to preach the doctrine of the Lordship of Christ. We have shrunken God down to our size and placed him on man's level, and we've taken salvation out of the hands of God and placed it in the hands of man.

We present an impotent little Jesus who stands knocking helplessly at the door of your heart like an insurance salesman with his hat in his hand. Won't you let him in? Paul warns of another Jesus in 2 Corinthians 11.4, for if he that cometh preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit which you have not received, or another gospel which you have not accepted. But the apostle Paul preached the Lordship of Christ as he established churches all throughout Asia Minor.

In 2 Corinthians 4.5, we see his central message of the gospel, for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord. There must be a reformation, friends, in our pulpits across the land, to go back to preach the full counsel of God and lift up the doctrine once again of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When Stephen Ofer preached on the surrendered life, he preached the doctrine of the Lordship of Christ, and he had a mantle of authority under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

God will bless the preacher who highlights in his sermons the Lordship of Jesus Christ. An example of this is the evangelist Mordecai Ham, who emphasized the Lordship of Christ in all his meetings throughout America. Entire communities saw revival when Ham came to town preaching repentance and the Lordship of Christ.

In the towns that Mordecai Ham preached, mockers were converted, families were restored, bars were closed, laws were changed, churches were filled to overflowing, hundreds were called to preach, and crooked politicians either repented or feared the consequences. When some resisted God's work, God withdrew His grace in answer to Ham's prayers, and God's judgment fell. Some of Ham's hearers had to be carried out on stretchers after being struck dead.

His main message was the Lordship of Christ. Listen to his own words, friends, taken from his biography. I preached the absolute Lordship of Jesus Christ.

I allowed for no compromise, but hammered this one thought that Christ Jesus must have first place, first call, and first allegiance. I made that the keynote of all my meetings. My objective has always been to enter a town and change the thinking of residents towards Christ, to direct their lives, to center on Christ.

We must direct our energies to getting people right with the Lord Jesus. While Mordecai Ham's words still ring true today, friends, people need to have ministers who are true to their souls, and the doctrine of the Lordship of Christ must sound forth in our land again if we are to have any hope of seeing revival. Lordship in our preaching should be primary because Jesus is Lord.

Let us pray.
