We are in scripture that the Holy Spirit searches into the deep things of God and reveals them to us. 1 Corinthians chapter 2 and verses 9 and 10 declare, But as it is written, I hath not seen nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love him, but God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit, for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. We are in our flame series on the Holy Spirit and our lesson today, friends, is a focus on the Holy Spirit as a personal teacher who is ready to instruct us as we study God's word and live the Christian life.

Have you ever been reading a passage of scripture where suddenly the light comes on, so to speak, and you see the truth and God's word just leap out at you from across the page? This is the work of the Holy Spirit as teacher. We see this principle in John chapter 16 and verses 12 through 14 which state, I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now, howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.

Some of the best Bible study I've had, friends, has not been from Bible commentators, but from allowing the Holy Spirit to open up the passage to me and apply it to my heart, and that's what the Holy Spirit does with the gospel. He takes it and applies it to the sinner's heart. It is the Holy Spirit that brings conviction of sin.

Jesus speaks of him in John 16, 7 and 8. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will send him unto you, and when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. It is the Holy Spirit, friends, that awakens a sinner to his lost condition and shows him the danger of dying in his sins in the need of a Savior from sin. The day I got saved was a day I got lost, and the Holy Spirit showed me that I was not only going to hell, but that I deserved to go there, and it is the Holy Spirit that reveals to us our assurance of faith, as spoken of in Romans 8, 16.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. As the Holy Spirit is a personal teacher, it is evident from Scripture. Let us sit at his feet and learn from him.

Let us pray.
