Another Side of God

E.A. Johnston · 5:43

E.A. Johnston warns that the modern, comfortable view of God as tolerant and indulgent has led to a sin-loving society unprepared for the righteous judgment of God.
In 'Another Side of God,' E.A. Johnston challenges the modern, comfortable perception of God as merely loving and tolerant, exposing how this mindset has led to a society and church that embrace sin without fear. He prophetically warns of the impending judgment and calls believers to a sober understanding of God's holiness and wrath. This sermon confronts the diluted gospel and urges a return to reverence and repentance.

We live in a capitalistic society today that functions on commerce and advertising executives learned a long time ago that if you pitched your product to cater to one's self-indulgence you would have a winner on your hands. The fast food burger chains tell us you deserve a break today they say have it your way and we as consumers are accustomed to having it our way. Unfortunately this mentality edged its way into our churches through a diluted gospel message that ministers preached centering around the happiness of man that Jesus came to earth solely so you could be happy with him in heaven.

The gospel message is all about man and his happiness. Churches are built to make you comfortable and happy. You will find big easy lounge chairs in the foyer to sit while you have your latte before the church service begins.

Once inside the sanctuary everything is designed to make you feel comfortable with creature comforts. We as a people are used to having our own way to one degree or another and we have created a God to serve us. We created him in our minds to fit the mold we feel most comfortable with for our religion.

Our God is a loving forgiving entity that is more tolerant today toward sin than the older version of the outdated God of the old testament. We are church and we as a nation view God the same way that he is a merciful God who will not deal harshly with us because of our faults and sins and that he understands we sin so frequently because he's the one that made us that way. That's how folks think today.

You will hear someone say I am a homosexual because God made me that way therefore he won't punish me in a hell of torment because he loves me the way I am because he made me this way and God is a God of love. It amazes me friends how many church members who are dating one another and who call themselves Christians have premarital sex and see nothing wrong with it. How many young people today in our churches who are engaged to be married see nothing wrong with their fornication on Saturday night so long as they are in church on Sunday.

Their view of God allows them to sin as much as they want to. Their view of God tells them that God is okay with their promiscuous sex life because in their minds they are committed to each other and God is not so harsh in regard to them and he understands. That's how the majority of people think about God today in this country of ours.

They see an increase of natural disasters like fires, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and they see terrible events happen in society like the frequency of mass killings one after another throughout this land and they make no connection between these events and the God of their imagination. They would tell you that their God would never punish anyone, would never send anybody to hell unless it was a sociopath or a serial killer, somebody who really deserved it. God is too kind to send a normal person to hell just for a few sins.

This concept of God in America today is the main reason why we have a sin loving society that does not fear God and a sinning church that has lost her concept of the God of the Bible. This country has one foot hanging over the ledge of a preface of destruction and the other foot is on slippery ground. In Psalm 73 18 the word of God declares, surely thou did set them in slippery places thou cast them down into destruction.

God will not tolerate a society that has rejected him and God will not tolerate sin in his people. I believe Americans are getting ready to see another side of God they are quite unprepared for. It is my prayer, great God, in thy wrath remember mercy, Lord, in thy wrath remember mercy, I pray.
