The story of the cross has the power to follow people through life and be a source of comfort and guidance if taught to children in a meaningful way.
D.L. Moody shares a poignant story of an elderly man who recalls a significant moment from his childhood when his father crafted a small cross, symbolizing God's love and the sacrifice of Jesus. This memory of the cross became a guiding truth in the man's life, illustrating the lasting impact of teaching children about the redemptive power of Christ's sacrifice. Moody emphasizes that instilling such truths in the hearts of children will accompany them throughout their lives, shaping their faith and understanding of God's love.
Text
While down at a convention in Illinois an old man got past seventy years; and said he remembered but one thing about his father, and that one thing followed him all through life. He could not remember his death, he had no recollection of his funeral, but he recollected his father, one winter night, taking a little chip, and with his pocket knife whittling out a little cross, and told how God in His infinite love sent His Son down here to redeem us; how He had died on the cross for us. The story of the cross followed him through life; and I tell you if you teach these children truths, they will follow them through life.
