David Bercot (April 13, 1950 – N/A) was an American preacher, church historian, and author whose ministry focused on promoting early Christian teachings and Anabaptist principles within evangelical circles. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, to parents whose names are not widely documented, he was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness until leaving the faith in 1976. He pursued higher education, earning a B.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University (summa cum laude) and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University School of Law (cum laude) in 1980. Converted to evangelical Christianity in his late 20s, he later studied theology at the University of Cambridge and was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1985 before aligning with Conservative Anabaptist fellowships. Bercot’s preaching career centered on his role as an elder at Chambersburg Christian Fellowship in Pennsylvania, where he emphasized the simplicity of pre-Nicene Christian doctrine over modern theological complexities. Beginning in 1985, he devoted himself to studying early church writings, preaching at conferences and churches worldwide to advocate for a return to radical discipleship. Author of influential works like Will the Real Heretics Please Stand Up? (1989) and A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs (1998), he founded Scroll Publishing to distribute his books and over 150 recorded lectures. Married to Deborah Hart Darragh since 1972, with three children, he continues to reside in Pennsylvania, influencing Anabaptist and evangelical communities through his teaching and writing.
